Graduation!

Cause I need some Hallelujahs to be sung!

I *just* finished my last homework of my last day of my last semester of my undergraduate career! Holy moly!

Also, I went to the PLU library last night at around 10pm, and they couldn't check out my books initially, because apparently they had already changed me over to being a graduate student...before I even graduate! That was quick. They got it figured out, and I got the books I needed, so no harm done!

Now, I have the most amazing weekend planned! Here is what it looks like:

Saturday:
School of Arts and Communications Reception
Pinning Ceremony for my Music honors
Gonyea reception at the President's house
Music celebration

Sunday:
Church service for graduates (it's fun to go to a religious school!)
Brunch with the fam
GRADUATION! (OMG! FTW!)
PARTY! (DOUBLE FTW!)

Monday:
Folklife! Tina and I are taking the kids, anyone else wanna meet us there?

Tuesday:
Picnic at the lake with my hubby and munchkins

Wednesday:
NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING...ok, maybe some housework.

Sometimes, significant events of my life play in my memory like a movie. Certain things can trigger them. For instance, I just heard a song that reminded me of the last day I saw my ex-husband before we moved in separate directions. We had met at our then apartment to go through things, sort out what was mine and what was his, in effect compartmentalizing our relationship into material things. It was actually the first time in years we had been able to stand in the same room and have a civil conversation. I then drove him to the bus stop, and as he was getting out of the car, he accidentally said "I love you," an old habit from when we were together. He realized his mistake, and although I pretended not to hear, I saw him in the rearview mirror standing there and watching as I drove away from him. Slice of Life 1

My favorite place in all the world is one I found the first time I set foot on the campus at Pacific Lutheran University. I came back to college after a ten year hiatus from school. I meant to go right after high school, but life happened. So, two kids, a dozen odd jobs, a divorce, and a remarriage later, I decided to follow my passion and go back to college to become a teacher. I spent the first couple of years at a community college, getting my prerequisites out of the way, but when it was time to move on to a university, I began to explore PLU as an option. I applied, was accepted, and took the 60 mile trip from Seattle to see the campus with my husband. I knew the second I set foot on the serene layout at PLU that I was home, but one place resonated with me more than any other. It was a rainy, blustery March day. What are you fighting for?

This past week has been a week of breaking down, and building back up. I began the Student Leadership Institute on Wednesday with the idea that it would be good for me to learn some new leadership skills and to learn more about the people around me. I got far more out of it than I ever imagined I might.   Wednesday began normally enough. I went to school, sat through the opening of SLI, and had a good first half of the day. But then we went to lunch, and I just couldn't shake this feeling I was having, and three words kept beating time through my head..."learn, unlearn, relearn." We came back to the session after lunch, and I found myself having a harder time with each new activity we began. I wanted to participate, but having been inside myself and insular for so long, I was uncomfortable in the space, and I really just wanted to go somewhere a little less populated.
